These remarks were made during a news conference, so we may have some tape to look forward to. Let's see how much play this gets in the national media. Somehow I doubt there will be notable references from any of them other then the target of the attack; that being Fox News.

It is amazing how false accusations of racism or religious bigotry against Tea Party protesters are newsworthy while actual examples from people and groups against the Tea Party rarely seem to merit a mention.

"Samir said the allegations of voter intimidation were false and that he had been caricatured by conservative news organizations, including Fox.

"You call me a white hating bigot? Let me tell you who King Samir really is," he said, describing himself an activist and hip hop artist who spends most of his time caring for his children.

"That's what you don't hear from Fox Jews, I mean Fox News," he said."

Update: What would be worse; if this was a slip of the tong or part of his prepared remarks?

Palin is getting a lot of flak from this, but I think she handled herself nicely. Those two guys that kept trying to block the camera though; did they think that would actually work or would come out anything but obnoxious?

Medicare's Chief Actuary Explains Why The System is Failing

"The memo claimed that the estimates used by the White House and its allies underestimated costs by a whopping 68% and could not possibly be seen as a good-faith projection of the program's future:


"(T)he financial projections shown in this report for Medicare do not represent a reasonable expectation for actual program operations in either the short range. . . or the long range. . . . I encourage readers to review the 'illustrative alternative' projections that are based on more sustainable assumptions for physician and other Medicare price updates."


These remarkable words are found, in all places, in the "Statement of Actuarial Opinion" in the back of the 2010 annual Medicare Trustees' Report.



It is difficult to overstate how unusual this development is. The normal process with the annual Trustees' Reports is for the Trustees to develop and publish the best available projections for the future finances of Social Security and Medicare. The respective Social Security and Medicare actuaries then sign a pro forma blessing of those projections, which is tacked to the back of the report when released to the public.


This year, the Medicare Chief Actuary clearly did not feel he could in good conscience sign such a declaration.


What happened?  Our old friend the "doctor fix" raised his head again.  It turns out that the Medicare trustees' projection of costs relies on the postponed 23% cuts in reimbursements to take effect — even though the White House and the Democrats have repeatedly promised the AMA they would be repealed. ...


The actuary also rejected the idea that "economy-wide productivity" gains would drive costs downward"

Another medical horror story from the country who's system we are moving towards; for reasons that still escape me.

"Losing her first baby was devastating enough but having to do it in a crowded waiting room is what angered Christine Handrahan the most.

The 29-year-old Peakes woman was nine weeks pregnant when on July 12 she started bleeding.

Fearing the worst, Handrahan and her husband, Michael, headed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital's new emergency room.

There she waited more than three hours, blood seeping out of her jeans, tears rolling down her face as she feared she was losing her baby — or that she might be bleeding to death.

Still, she waited and waited.

More than three hours passed before Michael had enough.

Michael helped his wife out of a wheelchair into his truck and they made the 45-minute drive to Prince County Hospital in Summerside. There she was immediately rushed into the hospital's emergency room where the mother-to-be was told that she had a miscarriage."
