Bharat Bandh on July 5 called by BJP against price rise Posted: 29 Jun 2010 05:25 AM PDT Bharat Bandh on July 5 called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against price rise and announced for a 24-hour nationwide shutdown (Bharat Bandh). "In order to protest against this unjustified hike in petroleum prices and the total ineptitude of UPA Government to address this problem, BJP President Nitin Gadkari has given a call for a Bharat Bandh on 5th July," "Gadkari has appealed to all well-meaning individuals and organizations to support this call and voice the agony and suffering of common people in a peaceful and democratic manner. Gadkari appealed all the organizations and people who are opposing the unhealthy and wrong economic policies of Congress Government, to support the Bharat Bandh, and express concern against the Mehangai-Price Rise," Gadkari said – "The prices of items of daily use and consumption by common man have increased manifold severely eroding the household budget. The recent hike in petroleum prices has further burdened the life of common man and made it much more difficult for him/ her to make both ends meet." The BJP president said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi few days back released the UPA Government's Report Card and both have categorically admitted that checking price rise has been the major failure of the Government. "They committed to take steps to control prices. It is shocking that instead of bringing down the prices, the petroleum prices hike shall fuel the price rise further. Meanwhile, a 12-hour nationwide 'hartal' (general strike) on the same day (July 5) has been called by the Left and other Opposition parties against the recent fuel price hike. The four Left parties – Communist Party of India, CPI (Marxist), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Forward Bloc – have given the call for the strike. Besides, the AIADMK, Telegu desam Party (TDP), Samajwadi Party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Janata Dal (Socialist) and INLD have also supported the strike call.
