Federal Government Sues to Block Arizona Immigrant Law Posted: 06 Jul 2010 02:13 PM PDT We knew it was coming, and here it is. Obama is arguing preemption; nothing about discrimination, racial or otherwise. You can read the complaint yourself over at http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2010/07/feds-sue-arizona-complaint-here.html. Seems kind of weak... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_immigration_enforcement_lawsuit "The U.S. Justice Department on Tuesday filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Arizona's new law targeting illegal immigrants, setting the stage for a clash between the federal government and the state over the nation's toughest immigration crackdown. The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Phoenix argues that Arizona's law requiring state and local police to question and possibly arrest illegal immigrants during the enforcement of other laws such as traffic violations usurps federal authority. "In our constitutional system, the federal government has pre-eminent authority to regulate immigration matters," the lawsuit says. "This authority derives from the United States Constitution and numerous acts of Congress. The nation's immigration laws reflect a careful and considered balance of national law enforcement, foreign relations, and humanitarian interests." The government is seeking an injunction to delay the July 29 implementation of the law until the case is resolved. It ultimately wants the law declared invalid." |

Octavia Nasr (CNN Editor) Sad Over Hizbullah Spiritual Mentor's Death Posted: 06 Jul 2010 02:03 PM PDT It does not appear to be one of those 'all deaths are tragic' either... http://www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=180553 "CNN's senior editor of Middle East affairs, Octavia Nasr, posted a message on her Twitter account on Sunday in which she expressed sadness at the death of Ayatollah Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah, described by terrorism analysts as the spiritual mentor of Hizbullah. "Sad to hear of the passing of Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah... One of Hezbollah's giants I respect a lot," Nasr wrote. Nasr's remarks drew fire from the Honest Reporting media watchdog, which asked on its Web site, "Is Nasr a Hezbollah sympathizer? This is disturbing enough given that the group is designated a terrorist organization by the US and is committed to the destruction of Israel. And which of Fadlallah's individual views does Nasr admire?" CNN did not respond to a request for comment by press time." |
