M9 – What’s Your Plan? Zong’s Leaked TVC! [Updated] is a post from: ProPakistani

We are told by an email from a unknown sender that Zong is going to launch a industry first offer, dubbed as M9, in coming days.

This information is based upon a leaked TVC that suggests that users can register their numbers in advance by visiting www.m9.com.pk, which is blank page as of now.

No words yet on details of the offer, however, we can confirm that www.m9.com.pk is going to be the host of the offer. Maybe a new brand, or just a package, or just a service!

It merits mentioning here that www.m9.com.pk got registered in the name of CMPak Ltd. in July 2010.

Check here the TVC, a good one by the way, and share your thoughts in comments!

Update:

m9.com.pk got some content now, an image file that reads: “Coming Soon”

Moreover, it says:

Now get your lucky number with the opinion of our expert “Waseem Jaffry”

Update 2:

We have more details on M9 –  as reports suggest, it will be a service from Zong to offer you a lucky number after consultation with Waseem Jaffry, a renowned numerologist.

M9 customers can book their lucky numbers by visiting this link: http://byn.m9.com.pk/PHIBYN/luckynumber.aspx

Zong said that Customers will be able to book their numbers and collect their SIM Cards within 10 days from the date of booking. (Home Delivery will be catered after launch)

It is anticipated that M9 customers will be offered with special pricing for voice and data calls. Let’s wait for the official launch for more details on tariff.

Telenor Intended for Urdu Website, But then Gave Up!

Telenor Intended for Urdu Website, But then Gave Up! is a post from: ProPakistani

First uncovered by Arsalan Mir, it was revealed that Telenor invested time and resources to get Urdu version of its official website running, however, it looks that project is lost by now.

Telenor Urdu thumb Telenor Intended for Urdu Website, But then Gave Up!

It was a good thought on Telenor's end to come up with local language, an easy way for masses to understand the services and products. However, it is apparent that (urdu version of) website isn't updated for at least a year or so.hasnat masood thumb Telenor Intended for Urdu Website, But then Gave Up!

Just to add that Urdu version of Easypaisa’s website has gone missing too.

In a recent seminar on 3G, all five cellular mobile operator have signed MoUs to boost localized applications, content and services.

So let's not rule out the chances for the revival of this website. Moreover, other operators may also maintain Urdu section on their websites.

Telenor’s Easypaisa: Still Lacking the Knockout Punch?

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 11:55 PM PST

Telenor's Easypaisa: Still Lacking the Knockout Punch? is a post from: ProPakistani

knockout punch thumb Telenor's Easypaisa: Still Lacking the Knockout Punch? The Japanese and Korean vision for mobile communication differs vastly from any other nation in the world. Operators and regulators in both countries adopted the telecommunication change not merely as a means to ease the communication link between entities, but saw it as the replacement for almost all established networks; be it business or personal.

The concept dates back to when plastic money was introduced; remember the Visa advertisement, where the girl wears tight-fitting jeans and has no means to fit her wallet, so all she takes with her is her Visa card. Twist that to the 21st century, and all you need is your mobile phone now.

Of course, it will be hard to replicate the models adopted in Japan and South Korea. Both exhibit natures of highly coordinated market economies, where the industry giants have developed from family control and are conglomerates with interests in several sectors. With such extensive spread, it is easier to link the telecommunication unit with the financial services unit, and deploy mobile applications to ease customer needs.

Telenor, with its 150 years of international experience, took the first step towards 'mobile money transfers' by introducing Easypaisa in 2009. Based on the regulations in financial trading, Telenor could not perform the service in its own right, and acquired Tameer Microfinance Bank to ensure all required criteria was fulfilled.

The simple model adopted was a bid to cross the boundary of mobile users, enabling anyone and everyone to utilize the service. The only thing required is a copy of your computerized national identity card (CNIC).

With international remittances coming online earlier this year, Telenor has reduced the burden from our slow banking networks that operate in far-flung areas.

However, the burden has been placed onto small retailers and outlets, which are unlikely to be as trained or skilled in fiscal matters as general bank staff.

Even then, Telenor has to be commended on enhancing the spread within its focus segment of the rural regions. The service demonstrates steps being taken to bridge the innovation gap that exists across Pakistan's population topology.

One worrying factor, among others, that may need attention from Telenor is the recent study on migration from rural to urban centers. While numbers remained steady in the past few years, the recent natural calamities have resulted in a massive spike in the movement.

Hence, easypaisa will need to be re-modeled to cater to two very different subsets of the population.

The business model that Telenor has followed is merely the outer layer of payment solutions. Of course, business constraints will always play a role in the planning and implementation of such models. No other operator has managed to match this offering by Telenor, giving it complete control of the market for now. And it is unlikely that any of the 4 competing operators will give Telenor competition on this front.

But a local logistical group may take a follower advantage, having studied Telenor's model and system, and performed a research study of how to create a deeper connection with the population, urban and rural. The group's belief is that human interaction is still perceived highly across the country, especially when it comes to money.

The core feature they aim to complete with their model is removal of the requirement for a customer to travel to any market to send/receive funds or make payments.

All services at your doorstep and should get done through a mere keypad!

Electronic Money Transfers Go Down in Pakistan is a post from: ProPakistani

Epikoinia Electronic Money Transfers Go Down in PakistanBoth electronic and paper-based deals in Pakistan's banking sector decline during July-September 2010, reflecting limited business activity amid higher interest rates, said a report issued by State Bank of Pakistan.

The value of paper-based retail payments during the quarter under review fell by over 12 percent to Rs35.60 trillion against the previous quarter, the central bank said on Tuesday. Similarly the value of eBanking transactions went down by around 4 percent.

The volume and value of eBanking transactions in the country during the quarter remained 52.58 million and Rs. 4.7 trillion, respectively, showing a decline of 1.89 percent in volume and 3.56 percent in value. This is contrary to the previous quarter when 6.2 and 7.7 percent growth were recorded in volume and value.

The contribution of ebanking payments in total retail payment transactions was 39.8 percent in terms of volume and 12.65 percent in terms of value.

The value of ATM transactions increased by around five percent, while maintaining the number of transactions at the level of the previous quarter, thus, increasing the average value per transaction to Rs8,486 against Rs8,037 during the previous quarter. The contribution of other modes of eBanking is also on the rise despite comparatively insignificant numbers and aggregates value of transactions.

The utility bills payments through available modes (ATMs, internet, mobiles, etc) of eBanking transactions are also growing.

The total value of credit cards transaction has, however, decreased by one percent against the previous quarter.

Samsung Google Nexus S [Preview]

Samsung Google Nexus S [Preview] is a post from: ProPakistani

samsung google nexus s 1 thumb Samsung Google Nexus S [Preview]

Samsung, which endow with low cost relatively comparable phones with other companies, will now launch Samsung Google Nexus S Smartphone in Pakistan soon, with pricing around Rs. 73,000. That's high – we agree, due to a fact that same phone is going to see a launch in India for just Rs. 24,000.

The last Nexus version of Google Phone came from HTC but this time they have trusted Samsung with hardware and the new Google Nexus S looks just as other Samsung Phones.

The reason for Google to give their phone manufacturing task to Samsung would probably be that Samsung has sold the most number of Android Phones which were operated by Google. This device is set to be the next flagship phone sporting a pure Google experience.

Running on Android 2.3 / Gingerbread sporting a subtly reworked user interface design, and touting some potentially powerful new features, like near-field communication compatibility.

Nexus S is boasting all the design leanings of Samsung’s wildly popular Galaxy S line, but packing them into a tighter, sleeker and faster package. Let's have a preview to make you clear for Nexus S

Hardware configuration

It has the core hardware and software combination and this phone is blazingly fast considering the animations, touch response and general frame rate on everything seems to be cranked closer to the environs of the IPhone 4.

This phone consists of ARM Cortex A8 1GHz (Humming-Bird) processor core by which you will experience zipping around on the handset with fluid and natural feeling. 512 MB RAM adds the swiftness to Samsung Google Nexus S.

Display and User Interface

Nexus S has a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of 16M colors measuring screen 4 inches with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The touch input supports multiple touch and its screen oleo-phobic which means that your fingerprints embedded on the screen during typing would be wiped off within a second.

The UI has also been nipped and tucked all over the place, with icons and navigational elements taking on more of a buffed glass feel. With proximity sensor for auto turn-off and Three-axis gyro sensor makes this gadget good choice for its display properties. When the phone goes to sleep, there’s an effect of an old cathode ray TV being switched off, and even something as innocuous as the phone dialer has been refined.

Camera

Samsung Google Nexus S is equipped with an autofocus 5 MP camera that allows you to take pictures in 2560 x 1920 pixels; it is also embedded with LED flash for poor lighting conditions.

It supports geo-tagging and automated social network content posting. It is capable of recording WVGA videos with a frame rate of 720p@30fps. There is also a secondary VGA camera for video calling. Switching from the front camera to the rear camera takes minimal hunting and pecking.

Memory

This phone has an internal storage capacity of 16 GB, but unfortunately there is no support for additional expansion of memory though it doesn't have a slot for an external memory card (Micro SD). However, it has a dedicated 512 MB for those who like to multitask or play a lot games from Android Market.

Entertainment

Samsung Google Nexus S has integrated social networking, which will never let you left alone and will always make you hang-out with your friends. It also supports MP3/WAV/eAAC+/AC3/FLAC for audio and MP4/DivX/WMV/H.264/H.263 formats for video entertainment. 3.5 mm audio jack is also built-in.

Connectivity and Battery life

It supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n; DLNA, 3G networks with HSDPA 2100 / HSDPA 900, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and many more other connectivity preferences. It works on a Li-Ion 1500 mAh which can support GSM: 14h / 3G: 7h of talktime and GSM: 713h / 3G: 428h of stand-by time.
