Obama Refers to 9/11 Terrorists as a "Sorry Band of Men"

Posted: 11 Sep 2010 08:51 PM PDT

"President Barack Obama on Saturday recalled "that awful morning" nine years ago when "a sorry band of men" who perverted religion attacked the U.S. in hopes of demoralizing and dividing the country.

"Today we declare once more we will never hand them that victory ... for our cause is just, our spirit is strong and our resolve unwavering," the president said at the Defense Department's headquarters, where a hijacked plane slammed into the Pentagon, killing 184 people on Sept. 11, 2001.

Location of Remains From 9/11 World Trade Center Attack (Map)

This is a bit morbid but part of the reason the Ground Zero Mosque is being referred to as such.

I believe the better reason is the fact that the building was damaged having been hit with airplane debris that day.

"Rick Lazio — the Republican candidate for governor — was among the witnesses testifying in support of landmark status for the building.

After noting the lower Manhattan building's history and architectural significance, Lazio said it also warranted landmark designation because on Sept. 11, 2001, it was struck by airplane debris from the terror attacks against the nearby World Trade Center. That connection to the attacks, he said, made it "a place of deep historical significance and a reminder of just what happened on New York's darkest day.''

Arnold Ahlert from the NY Post compares and contrasts the two most iconic attack against America. The first being December 7th when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The second being terrorist attacks on September 11th. The conclusion; America has become almost 'scared' of total victory and the total warfare it may entail. The change in style has had serious negative repercussions.

"Dec. 7 and Sept. 11 are iconic American anniver saries. Both days represent our greatest failures to understand the true nature of evil. And while each day will be treated with a similar veneration reserved for national tragedies, there is one aspect that truly divides them: resolution.

The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941. Four years later, they surrendered unconditionally. If one posits that the war against radical Islam began in 2001 (at least for us), we are in the midst of a nine-year-old conflict that shows no signs of resolution.

How is this possible? In terms of manpower and machinery, Japan was a far more formidable foe than the various umbrella groups that make up Islamic jihadism. Why are we having more trouble defeating them?

Because we've "sanitized" warfare.
War is ostensibly a last-resort option. It's supposed to be something so dreadful that it should be avoided at all costs. Do Americans ever wonder how far Islamic jihadists would continue to go if their every provocation were met with an annihilating response? Our grandparents knew the answer to that question.

US Debt is More Than All The Money in The World

Posted: 11 Sep 2010 08:13 PM PDT

Depending on where you put the number on our total obligations, the United States would need the entire economic output of the entire plant for a more then a year (or two) to pay back out debt. Debt/deficit problem; what debt problem...

"I have argued that the real national debt is about $130 trillion. Let's say I'm being pessimistic. Forbes, in a 2008 article, came up with a lower number: $70 trillion. Let's say the sunny optimists at Forbes got it right and I got it wrong.

For perspective: At the time that 2008 article was written, the entire supply of money in the world ("broad money," i.e., global M3, meaning cash, consumer-account deposits, checkable accounts, CDs, long-term deposits, travelers' checks, money-market funds, the whole enchilada) was estimated to be just under $60 trillion. Which is to say: The optimistic view is that our outstanding obligations amount to more than all of the money in the world.

Koran Burned

The Koran was burned and torn in a few different places today including near Ground Zero. It was not by the man who garnered so much attention, who was dragged on MSNBC just to be lectured (and not allowed to respond) and who they amusingly tried to tie to Rush.
