iPod Touch 4G With 2 Cameras and Other iPod Design Announced

Steve Jobs has just announced a refresh of the Apple iPod line-up at the on-going iPod event in the Yerba Buena Centre of Arts in San Francisco. First up, Steve Jobs announced  a brand new iPod Shuffle. The new iPod Shuffle looks pretty similar to its predecessor. This time around Apple has added Genius iPod NanoMixes to the Shuffle as well. The Shuffle retains the small and wearable design of its predecessor, as well as the easy to use buttons.

Next in line is the iPod Nano. The new Nano looks totally different from its predecessor. The new Nano features a very small multi-touch enabled screen. Gone is the click wheel which was found in the older generation iPod Nano. The new iPod Nano also features a clip, volume buttons, FM Radio, Nike+, Pedometer and voice over. The screen of the Nano will also automatically rotate if the device is clipped in a non-standard direction.

Last but not the least is the iPod Touch. The new iPod Touch is basically an iPhone 4 without a GSM antenna. The new iPod Touch features Retina Display which we first saw on the iPhone 4. It is powered by a 1 GHz A4 Chip and packs in a 3-axis Gyro censor. The new iTouch will also come with a camera at its back and front. The camera at the back of the device will be able to record videos in 720p HD resolution. The front camera will allow the device to make video calls, dubbed "FaceTime" by Apple using Wi-Fi.

The iPod Shuffle is capable of providing up to 15hours of continuous music playback, while the Nano can pump out music for up to 24 hours. The new iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano and the iPod Touch will be up for sale next week and are already up for pre-order. The new iPod Shuffle costs $49 and will be available in five colors.

The iPod Nano will be available in seven new colors and the 8GB model will sell for $149 while the 16GB version will sell for $179. The iPod Touch will be available in 8GB, 32GB and 64GB variants for $229, $299 and $399 respectively.

Apple iPad iOS 4.2 With AirPlay, Multitasking and Game Center Announced

Along with the iOS 4.1 update for the iTouch devices, Steve also gave a sneak peek intoApple iPad the upcoming iOS 4.2. The iOS 4.2 update is meant only for the iPad and brings with it all the features which the iOS 4 brought with it to the iTouch platform. The iOS 4.2 update will include Multitasking, the recently announced Game Center and HDR photos as well. One new feature the iOS 4.2 will incorporate will be AirPlay. Apple has renamed AirTunes to AirPlay and it can now stream a variety of media via Wi-Fi to your iPad.

Here is what Steve Jobs defined AirPlay as-:

"Now, what is AirPlay? You know what AirTunes is… listen to music from all over your house from your mobile device. We're changing the name of AirTunes to AirPlay, and it's not just music anymore. You can stream all kinds of media anywhere in your house."

Along with this, iOS 4.2 will also bring wireless printing functionality with it to the iPad. According to Steve, the iOS 4.2 update will be rolled out in the month of November for free of cost to all iPad owners.

Apple iOS 4.1 Released

Apple has just rolled out the iOS 4.1 update for its iTouch devices. The iOS4.1 updateGame Center fixes tons of bugs present in the iOS4 including the popular Proximity sensor bug on the iPhone 4, Bluetooth bugs and performance issues on the iPhone 3G. Along with this, this update also brings HDR photo to the iPhone.

According to Steve, here is what HDR does –:

"Let's start off with HDR photos, what are they? A lot of times when you take a photo, it's blown out with bright light. Now, when you turn on HDR, it takes 3 photos in rapid succession: one normal, one under exposed, and one under exposed. It combines the three with some pretty sophisticated algorithms…"

Another feature which the iOS4.1 update brings onboard is the Game Center. This 'Center' is all about playing multiplayer games and challenging your friends to beat your score. The Game Center will also allow users to discover new games.

The Apple iOS 4.1 update will be released for selected iPhone and iPod Touch models next week for free.

Motorola Launches the Defy – Rugged Android Smartphone

Motorola’s Android bet has paid off handsomely in the last few months. The successful launch of the Motorola Droid and subsequently the Droid X and the Droid 2 has made Motorola’s mobile division profitable again.

Today, Motorola officially launched the Milestone 2 and also unveiled the new Motorola Defy.

Motorola Defy

The Motorola Defy is a new Android smartphone which offers a rugged and tough build. It is impact, dust and water resistant and comes with the famous Gorilla Glass display, like the iPhone 4.

It has very impressive hardware specifications too. It has a 3.7 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. It is powered by an OMAP processor clocked at 800 MHz with 512 MB RAM and runs Android 2.1 Eclair with the MotoBLUR interface. It will probably get the Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade soon.

It also has a 5 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. It comes with GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. It has a 2 GB internal ROM and supports up to 32 GB microSD cards.

Motorola Milestone 2 Officially Announced

It was just yesterday that a leaked video of the Motorola Milestone 2 made it on the Internet. Today Motorola has officially announced the Milestone 2. The Motorola Milestone 2 is the GSM version of the recently releasedMotorola Milestone 2 Motorola Droid 2. The Motorola Milestone 2 is similar to the Droid 2 except for one change. The Motorola Milestone 2 will be capable of recording videos in 720p HD resolution which the Droid 2 does not.

"MILESTONE 2 offers more power, more speed, with an improved keyboard, so users can send, access and share information even quicker than before to manage their work and personal life," said Alain Mutricy, senior vice president, portfolio and device product management, Motorola Mobility. "This introduction not only reaffirms our commitment to innovate on Android but offers consumers the leading edge features they crave including fast web browsing, messaging, application downloads and multimedia."

The Motorola Milestone 2 will feature a 1 GHz OMAP processor, 512MB of RAM and pack in 8GB of internal memory as well. The Milestone 2 will replace its predecessor – the original Milestone. The Milestone will run on Android OS 2.2 and on top of it the latest version of the MOTOBLUR will be present.

Hopefully, Motorola will enable 720p HD recording on the Droid 2 via a Software update soon. The device will be launched in Europe by Q4 of this year. However, Motorola did not announce the pricing of the device.

Nokia E72 Firmware Updated To V51.018

Nokia has just rolled out a new firmware update for their business oriented powerhouse – the Nokia E72. The new firmware version is v51.018. This new firmware update updates a number of system applications like the webNokia E72 browser, QuickOffice, OVI Music etcetera. The firmware update also aims at improving the performance and stability of the device. The layout of the main menu of the device has also been changed with this firmware update.
