| Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2 being shown at E3? Posted: 11 Jun 2010 04:41 PM PDT
Here’s the deal: GameSpot has a goofy interactive E3 show floor map listing all the companies showing titles. You click on the a company name and it says what GameSpot has on that company’s E3 agenda. If you go there now and click on EA’s spot, it’ll tell you they’re featuring Tiger Woods, Madden, Bulletstorm, Crysis 2 and Dead Space 2. But it didn’t always say that. Iup took a gander at it this morning, and when they did, that attractive-looking hexagon said EA would be featuring Madden, Tiger and Dead Space, and in addition to those three it listed Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2 (and they took a screenshot). That they removed the titles speaks to why they were there in the first place, but it doesn’t really explain it. It means it was a mistake to put them up, but it’s not known if it was just an error or if they were leaking something. | Crysis 2 Beta Signups Start Tomorrow Posted: 11 Jun 2010 04:05 PM PDT The Crysis 2 website is down at the moment and will relaunch sometime soon, and once it does, beta signups will begin. According to RipTen, “sometime soon” is noon tomorrow Central European Time. Their source is a news post that went up on the Crysis site before all content was taken down. Those of us in the US know noon CET as 3 a.m. PDT. So what do you have to do? When the new site launches, visit it and register an account with the site. Then wait for some amount of time and hope they send you a beta invitation. Here’s the quote from the post, as reported by RipTen and Blue’s News: “Early registrations will be tracked, and our first wave of users will have a chance to win a key as and when the Crysis 2 beta takes place. All you need to do is sign up early and one day in the near future you may be receiving a mail with an invite to the game.” I don’t know anything else about this, so stop asking. Seems simple enough, and the time isn’t really as inconvenient to us in the US as some might think, since South Korea and Greece will meet each other in the World Cup at 4:30 a.m. PDT. Yeah, yeah, I know. You guys are nerds, which makes it impossible for you to like sports, but I’m just saying. | Xbox Live Arcade Gets a Mega-sale Posted: 11 Jun 2010 02:16 PM PDT
In a totally separate thing, next week’s Deal of the Week is actually five games. The five titles are, interestingly enough, last year’s Summer of Arcade titles, and they’re coming way down in price, which is great, since I didn’t grab Shadow Complex last year. Hit the jump for a huge list and a small list. Inventory Blowout (open to all Xbox Live members)

| Gears of War Visits Degrassi, adds Drake to the Team Posted: 11 Jun 2010 12:33 PM PDT Degrassi graduate Jimmy Brooks* aka hot young hip-hop artist Drake is heading to a Gears of War game near you. What’s he going to be doing? He’ll provide the voice of Jace Stratton, a new playable character (in co-op) in Gears of War 3. You might remember Jace from the comics and that one part where he showed up in Gears 2. Is this a good call? Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, is a legit star, and he was an actor before he broke out as Drake, and he was without a doubt one of the better performers on Degrassi. So, yeah, this isn’t the same as getting Justin Bieber. *In school, I pre-gamed every Friday night while watching Degrassi: The Next Generation. It was killer. | FINALLY! Someone Figured Out How To Make Zelda II Good! Posted: 11 Jun 2010 11:04 AM PDT It's the Triforce of Phallus! Admit it: No matter how much you try, you can’t wish away the fact that Zelda II: The Adventure of Link’s experiment with abandoning everything that made The Legend of Zelda good – IE replacing the isometric, open world exploration/questing, with platforming – was a bad, bad idea. Yeah, I said it. TAOL just wasn’t that good of a game. But it didn’t have to be that way, I really believe that. Well, via Kotaku, it looks like I’m not the only who feels this way. See that shot? It’s Zelda II, only as a first person Shooter. Called, cleverly enough, Zelda II: FPS, you can play it in your browser. Just download it here. I can’t really oversell this. It’s everything you love about Nintendo, combined with everything that makes the internet great. Play it. Now. I’ll be over here with my Power Glove. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Nehrim – At Fate’s Edge Hat Gleichgestellt Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Posted: 11 Jun 2010 11:03 AM PDT Diese echse ist so tot. Totes tot. Yeah, sorry about that. They’re German, and this one’s for the homies. Fortunately, they’re smart enough to realize that making what sounds like an amazing game is a pretty great way to get people interested in actually playing it, and they promise a full English language translation later this summer. Until then, you’ll have to make due with wishing you’d paid less attention to how hot Frau Schuler was, and more attention to the Dative case. Here’s the trailer:
One final note: More than a few people were not jazzed about Oblivion, thinking it was Action + RPG when it should have been RPG + Action. This game is, apparently, for them. Still hooked? Feel like brushing up on your Eins, Sweis und Dreis? You can download it here. | Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught Mode Dated Posted: 11 Jun 2010 10:31 AM PDT We’ve known that a co-op mode for Battlefield: Bad Company was in the works for a while now, but we never really knew when to expect it. Now we do. Over at the Battlefield Blog, they’ve got the details and dates for Onslaught mode. Onslaught will pit teams of up to four players against a series of objective based missions. The update will also include new achievements and trophies. Onslaught will be released on June 22nd on PlayStation Network ($9.99) and XBox Live (800 MS Points). Unfortunately, this mode has not been announced for PC. Additionally, DICE will be releasing the ability for players to purchase unlocks for one or all kits this month. You can get the details on that, and a few screens from Onslaught Mode, after the break. In an apparent effort to allow those who don’t have a ton of time on their hands to acquire the in-game unlockable weapons, DICE will release ‘Kit Shortcuts.’ These shortcuts will give you all the unlocks for a kit, but will not affect your ranking. Each kit will run you 560 MS Points ($6.99), or you can buy all the unlocks for all kits, including the vehicle unlocks, for 1600 MS Points ($19.99). The shortcuts will appear on XBox Live and the European PlayStation Network on June 16, and will roll out on the US PSN June 22. These changes have raised a bit of an uproar in the comments section over the the BF Blog. PC fans are angry that the Onslaught isn’t coming to PC, and nearly everyone is mad that DICE is charging VIP code owners for the upcoming content. Many gamers are upset that DICE is offering up the unlocks for cash, instead of making players ‘earn’ them. This makes me chuckle a bit. Earning all the unlocks doesn’t take that long, and the upgrades aren’t so powerful as to unbalance the game. If someone doesn’t want to spend that time in front of the screen to unlock everything, and they’re willing to part with a few bucks, who cares? What do you think? Should DICE be giving this content to VIP players? Is it a big deal that people can buy unlocks? Onslaught screens follow….
| IDAPT i3 Universal Desktop Charger Review Posted: 11 Jun 2010 08:43 AM PDT
IDAPT's Universal Desktop Charger is one solution to the plague of electron tethers. A simple, easily configured power station designed around plug-in modules for many of the most common portable devices on the market today.
Changing the tips is a very simple affair, the modules only insert one way into the charging base and are removed by pressing down on the silver plastic. Once a module it released it's a matter of simply pulling it out of the base and storing it. The IDAPT i3 is a lightweight unit. I expected it to have more weight, in fact when I placed it on a cluttered table for testing my cat was able to push it aside easily while exploring. This unit is not the right choice for someone who has a busy cluttered house unless it’s safely tucked out of sight.
Functionally there are no lights or indicators on the device itself to indicate it is powered on. The i3 connects to a wall via a simple power cord and uses a flip on/off switch on the rear of the unit to push power to devices. Open module ports have no exposed metal contacts so it's unlikely that you would accidentally electrocute yourself when a module is missing. The PSP and DSi XL designs both led to a bit of a logistical issue when charging them simultaneously. The tip used to charge the PSP is a thin spike and the unit rests on it precariously. The directions mention that to charge the PSP you should place the module in the rear left position with the PSP running across the IDAPT itself for support. The DSi XL using its tip necessitated a perpendicular alignment to the PSP. Luckily the interchangeable modules made this a non-issue. Over the course of two days I tested the i3 with multiple devices in multiple configurations and the unit worked perfectly. Devices charged and were kept out-of-the-way. Gone was the tangle of adapter cords and converters that typically liter my countertop. As someone who has a lot of portable devices each with their own unique adapter the IDAPT was a good solution. The IDAPT i3 retails for $50 and before purchasing buyers should take a look at the list of tips and supported devices available. Add-on tips are also available for around $10 a piece. Visit the IDAPT website to find out more about the IDAPT i3 desktop charging system . PROS: CONS: Score: Buy itShare and Enjoy:
| Starcraft II TV Trailer is Thirty Seconds of Awesome Posted: 11 Jun 2010 08:37 AM PDT Well, those of you who tuned in to the NBA finals last night got to see the Celtics win over the Lakers 96-89. I feel rather certain that the majority of the gaming public that tuned in was there for one reason only – the Starcraft II trailer we mentioned yesterday. While it’s only thirty seconds long, I have to admit that it’s quite an awesome cinematic trailer. Blizzard has always had a knack for releasing trailers that feel more like blockbuster movie teases than advertisements for video games, and this one is no exception. Maybe it’s just me, but this trailer still doesn’t mean I’ll be buying the game when it hits stores July 27. Yeah, it’s amazing, but having played in the beta for quite some time now, the game still feels like Starcraft 1.5. It’s just more of the same so far. How about you? Do you plan to pick up Blizzard’s next RTS? Check out the trailer and let us know how you like it, and if it makes you want the game more, after the break. | Rock Band 3 Keytar, Revamped Instruments Revealed Posted: 11 Jun 2010 06:41 AM PDT
Harmonix released images last night after a special pre-E3 event. The company showed off new gameplay videos for the instructions “Pro-Mode” for the redesigned guitar controller and keyboard – instead of colored bars players will actually see notes on the screen. Pro-Am musicians also found out that Harmonix and MadCatz would be working together to add a MIDI converter for existing instruments and make them compatible with Rock Band 3 also. The Rock Band 3 bundle with the keyboard will retail for $130. More images after the jump.
