David M. Howard Joining Microsoft Corp. as Deputy GC for Litigation Posted: 01 Jul 2010 02:11 PM PDT Dechert’s David M. Howard announced yesterday that after 20 years with the law firm, he will be joining Microsoft Corp. as corporate vice president and deputy general counsel in charge of litigation, The Legal Intelligencer reports. Howard is the co-chairman of Dechert’s 130-lawyer white-collar and securities litigation group. MIcrosoft’s legal and corporate affairs department has more than 1,000 employees, including 459 lawyers across 44 countries. Howard has reportedly represented Microsoft in the past, including handling compliance work. |
Frank Barron Joins Morgan Stanley as Chief Legal Officer Posted: 01 Jul 2010 02:00 PM PDT As previously discussed here, Morgan Stanley's Gary Lynch, a former director of enforcement at the SEC, announced in February that he was stepping down as chief legal officer of the bank. The firm announced today that Lynch’s successor has now been hired: Frank Barron (pictured), a litigation partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, will join the firm in New York. Bloomberg reports that Barron has been with Cravath for more than 30 years. Lynch will remain with the firm as vice chairman and a member of the firm's operating and management committees. |
France’s Technip Agrees to Pay $338 Million to Resolve DOJ, SEC Corruption Charges Posted: 01 Jul 2010 01:47 PM PDT Technip SA, a French oilfield-services provider, will pay $338 million to avoid U.S. prosecution and resolve SEC claims that it bribed Nigerian officials to win $6 billion in construction contracts, Bloomberg reports. The company has entered into a deferred-prosecution agreement under which prosecutors will drop charges in two years if Technip pays a $240 million fine and makes reforms.
