Motorola Droid X Root Not Possible Yet

Bad news for all those people who have pre-ordered the Motorola Droid X. The Droid X uses the same bootloader as the one in Motorola Milestone – which basically means no Custom ROM and recovery images. Motorola locks clip_image001 the bootloader on the Milestone by using a "proprietary encrypted private key". This literally makes it impossible to unlock the bootloader without access to the encryption technology from Motorola.

The only way possible to bypass this encryption method is to find an exploit in the encryption process. As of now, an exploit with the name "kexec" has the highest chances of meeting with success. Modders have been working hard over the last few months to unlock the bootloader, but have not met with any major success. Even though the bootloader is not unlocked, the Motorola Milestone can still be rooted.

This surely is bad news for future Droid X owners. The Motorola Droid success rate can also be attributed to the high level of modding possible with the phone. Hopefully, the Droid X bootloader will be unlocked within a short span of time.

Apple iPhone 4 Jailbroken By Geohot

Geohot is one of the most popular guy in the iPhone/iPod Touch jailbreak/unlock scene. He has successfully managed to hack the PlayStation 3 as well. However, Geohot has been mum right from the time the Apple iPhoneclip_image001 4 was announced, and released.

Now after quite a few months, Geohot has updated his blog. In the blog post, he says that he managed to jailbreak the iPhone 4 the day it landed on his doorsteps.

Here is what his blog post said:

Got one of these in the mail today and figured I’d give it a shot.

As far as a release goes, it probably won’t happen from me. limera1n is little more than a raindrop on a website; it was never mentioned by me previous to this post. pwned4life is a complete invention of some blogger in a basement somewhere. When I said pwned for life, I was referring to the original iPhone, 3G, and Touch; which of course are, by the aptly named PwnageTool.

Again, please don’t ask for release dates. Every person that does makes me want to release a little bit less.

As it is clear from the blog post, Geohot has clearly said that he won't be stating a release date. Users can jailbreak iOS4 on iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod Touch using PwnageTool 4.0.
