Sony Ericsson UK via their twitter account confirmed this news. Sony Ericsson for rolling out the Android 2.1 update in September, decided to delay the Mediascape and Timescape update for Q4 2010. This was a good decision by them because both these applications are missing common must have features, few X10 users actually use them.

Finally, for those who own a X10, you don’t have to wait longer for Android 2.1 to come on your device.

Make Full Use Of Droid X HDMI-Out Port

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 11:36 AM PDT

The Motorola Droid X is a multimedia powerhouse. The phone features a mammoth 4.3-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 854×480. The Droid X is also among the very few handsets in the market to feature a mini-HDMI outclip_image001 port. A mini-HDMI port on a phone is very useful as it allows a user to hook the phone up to his LCD and directly enjoy 720p content shot with the phone or loaded on the phone. Other advantages of a mini-HDMI out port are that users can play games on the LCD, browse websites etcetera.

However, Motorola spoilt the party of all the Droid X owners by limiting the HDMI out to only the Gallery mode. Nevertheless, an application called Real HDMI has surfaced on the AppBrain market which allows Droid X owners to take full advantage of the mini-HDMI out port of the device. The reviews of the application are highly positive and the only downsides are some minor bugs.

Motorola Droid X Gets Its First Custom ROM

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 10:00 AM PDT

When Verizon and Motorola launched the Droid X there was a big hype and hoopla over the locked down boot loader of the device. As days passed by, it emerged that the Droid X uses the same boot loader as the one of theDroidX Motorola Milestone. This was a bad news considering that the Milestone's boot loader was yet to be unlocked for allowing custom ROMs. However, the modding community, especially Birdman, did not lose hope and have finally met with success.

Birdman has released the first custom ROM for the Droid X. This custom ROM is based on the leaked Android 2.2 update for the Droid X. Here are the features of the custom ROM –:

*OptiPNG optimized apk’s
*Deodexed
*Busybox
*Updated Superuser.apk (credits to chainsdd)

*Removed -

3g hotspot
Kindle (market app)
Blockbuster (bankrupt company)
EMERGENCY (dial 911 for emergency’s…dont screw around with an app)
My Verizon (bad market app)
Maps (market app)
Voice search (market app)
Swype (removed for their constant anger towards rom devs)
Skype (market app)
Google search (market app)

Droid X owners can download the rom via ROM Manager. It is also recommended that users make a backup of their device before flashing this custom ROM on their device. Users also need to make sure that their Droid X is rooted. Keep in mind that this is not the final version of this ROM. This is only the Release Candidate 1 of this ROM. This custom ROM basically removes all those Verizon bloatware and improves the performance of your Droid X.

Verizon’s Samsung Fascinate Up For Pre-Order At Best Buy

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 09:20 AM PDT

The Samsung Galaxy S is available in the U.S under the T-Mobile and the AT&T network. T-Mobile sells the device as the Samsung Vibrant while AT&T sells it as the Samsung Captivate. Sprint's version of the Galaxy S – the EpicSamsung Galaxy S 4G will hit the stores on August 31st. The only other major network operator in the U.S which still does not offer the Galaxy S is Verizon. Rumors suggest Verizon launching its version of the Galaxy S – the Samsung Fascinate on September 9.

Giving strength to the rumor is the fact that the Fascinate is now up for pre-order at Best Buy. Verizon already offers a very impressive list of Android smartphones like the Droid Incredible, Motorola Droid 2 and the Droid X. The Samsung Fascinate will be a worthy addition to the Verizon line-up.

It was just yesterday we had reported that Samsung had managed to sell more than 1 Million Galaxy S handsets in the U.S.

Samsung Galaxy S Firmware Bug Resets Factory Settings without Asking

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 06:06 AM PDT

The Samsung Galaxy S has been selling like hot cakes ever since its release. Competitive pricing, coupled with fantastic screen, powerful hardware and Android OS (Operating System) has earned it a solid reputation. However, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have its fair share of kinks.

Besides the well-publicized GPS bug, some Galaxy handsets also suffer from another potentially devastating bug. According to the Inquirer, connecting the device to a PC through Samsung Kies might trigger a factory reset, if there is a file with extension longer than 16 characters. “This only occurs if the Galaxy S device contains a file name extension longer than 16 characters,” informed a Samsung spokesperson. “The issue will be remedied immediately when the file is removed”, he added.

Factory reset basically wipes away all your data and resets the phone to its original condition. This means that you will lose all your contacts, messages, settings and more. Until Samsung fixes this issue through a firmware update, ensure that your Galaxy S doesn’t have any file with extension longer than 16 characters.

Android 2.2 (Froyo) For Samsung Galaxy S Is Almost Here

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 03:46 AM PDT

Samsung had promised to release Froyo for the Galaxy S by the end of September. However, the good news is that with a little bit of trickery you might just be able to get Froyo on your Galaxy a lot sooner than that.

Samsung-Galaxy-S-Froy-Update

Multiple XDA forum members are reporting that it is possible to get Froyo running on the Galaxy S through Samsung Kies. The trick is to set Kies to test mode (CTRL+ALT+U+P) and modify the Windows registry. Please note that this might crash your handset and force you to do a factory reset.

Although Samsung appears to have fixed the extremely annoying GPS bug that plagued many of the earlier Galaxy S firmware builds, the jury is still out when it comes to performance improvements. However, it might be futile to rush to a judgment, as this is most probably not a final build of the firmware. Nevertheless, this does signal that the official Android 2.2 update for unbranded Galaxy S handsets will arrive soon.
