| Tollywood Sizzling Songs impresses Mass! Posted: 30 Aug 2010 01:15 PM PDT Remember chartbusters like Aaku chatu pinde thadise ("Vetagadu"), Chitapata chinukulu paduthu vunte ("Athmabalam") and Vanavana veluvayai (" Gang Leader")? Just to remind you of the over-the-top sizzling numbers from the 70's to 90's. From legendary NTR, ANR, Krishna to Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh, all superstars had their share of seductive numbers, drawing whistles for their gyrations. However, the fad has gradually given way to numbers more cozy than vulgar. Is it because Gen X audience shuns vulgarity? "Our film " Vedham" was designed for urban audience, so we had to shoot that number aesthetically. However, some audiences still prefer raunchy numbers. If I make a mass entertainer, I may include an enticing song," says, producer Devineni Prasad. It seems so, as "the sizzling song Simhaanti chinode in "Simha" did turn out to be a chartbuster," said director Boyapati Srinu. On the other hand, romantic film "Ye Maaye Chesave", had its share of cozy moments. "Those moments were aesthetically shot and I didn't feel embarrassed," said Samantha, Nevertheless, sizzling numbers couldn't really set BO on fire. Films like "Adavi, Drona Homam", "Golimar, Ek Niranjan" vouch for it. "I was initially reluctant about the steamy number in "Homam", but since the director claimed it was necessary for the script, I completed it," says, Mamta Mohandass. Vimala Raman however had no issues doing sizzling scenes. "Those scenes were confined to one song, otherwise it's a love story, besides, wearing a bikini is no big deal," she informs. Actress Priyamani also created ripples with her bikini act in "Drona" and Charmme blamed producers for releasing 'sizzling pictures' of her film "16 days". "It happens just for 20 seconds but they blew it up for some cheap publicity," she said. Among Gen X stars NTRjr has a couple of sizzling numbers including olami thika reginda ("Yamadonga") and cheema cheema (Simhadri), and succeeded in impressing the masses. Likewise, the cozy numbers on Prabhas in "Billa" had overdose of glamour. "It was a slick flick revolving around crime, deceit and power, so loads of glam was justified," said director Meher Ramesh. Thespian Ramanaidu too agrees. "It will not work as a gimmick but it will work if the script justifies it." Filmmaker Aditya Babu who had numbers in "Jagadam" and " Arya 2" ( Ringa Ringa) claims that toning down has happened "due to urban and multiplex audience. Gradually, we had to bid good bye to low camera angles, wild movements and lyrics with double meaning," he says, to sum up the trend. Courtesy: TOI
