UK: FSA Chief Warns Shake-Up May Undermine Insider Dealing Enforcement Posted: 22 Jun 2010 11:34 AM PDT Hector Sants, the head of the UK’s Financial Services Authority, said today that the newly-announced shake-up of financial regulation in the UK could undermine the nation’s tougher approach to insider dealing and customer mistreatment. While many expect a new agency will handle criminal insider-dealing cases along with other frauds, the FSA is lobbying to retain its dual criminal and civil jurisdiction in the area, the FT reports. Martha Stewart ‘Barred from UK’ Due to Prior Criminal Conviction Posted: 22 Jun 2010 09:39 AM PDT Martha Stewart has been refused a visa to enter Britain because of her conviction in the US, BBC News reports. The issue relates to Stewart’s conviction and jail time in 2004 for lying to investigators about the sale of certain stock. UK: Ex-Hedge Fund Trader Receives 10 Month Sentence for Insider Dealing Posted: 22 Jun 2010 09:29 AM PDT The UK’s FSA announced today that Anjam Saeed Ahmad, an ex-hedge fund trader and risk manager with AKO Capital LLP, has been sentenced to 10 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, 300 hours of unpaid work in the community and fined £50,000 for insider dealing. On 18 May 2010 Ahmad pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit insider dealing contrary to Section 1 of the Criminal Law Act 1977. Ahmad has agreed to assist the FSA with its investigation into his co-conspirator. FSA: Ex-hedge fund trader sentenced for insider dealing.
