M7.0 Earthquake – North Coast of Papua, Indonesia

Two strong earthquakes occurred on the north coast of Papua, Indonesia shortly after noon on Wednesday, June 16. The first was Magnitude 6.4 and the second a few minutes later was Magnitude 7.0. Early news reports indicate that damage was low for an earthquake of that magnitude.

A Magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred about 22 miles WSW of El Centro, California at about 9:26 PM local time on Monday, June 14. Modified Mercalli Intensity reports of V were repored from Campo, Jacumba, Calipatria, El Centro, Holtville and other communities.
