Why CFOs and Lawyers arn’t using social media? Posted: 18 Jun 2010 02:13 AM PDT CFOs and Lawyers have displayed a slow uptake when it comes to using social media for marketing and promoting their services/expertise. Many think it is out of their scope/desires. Some financial and legal people think the leads and contacts they get from social media would be of no value. Many are just too busy to even give it a shot and actually find out the benefits of social media. They need to realise that marketing and displaying informatino in this way can generate strong qualified leads and promote themselves as professionals and subject matter experts in their field. No longer can these businesses just rely on brand awareness/ building to reap the success of their marketing efforts. The internet is a very direct tool and some Lawyers and Financial professionals that have embraced social media are benefiting from the increased interest and professional advice from these businesses, ultimately turning into leads and sales. The main social media channels used by professionals today are embraces Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Leading law firms have started using social media if only to attract young legal graduates. If you are seen by your clients or prospects as trying something different, that will often receive attention in your favour. © admin for Social Media News, 2010. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us |
MySpace Co-President Jason Hirschorn departs Posted: 18 Jun 2010 12:13 AM PDT MySpace and News Corporation have announced that Co-President Jason Hirschorn has decided to leave the company. MySpace has had quite a few of their executives leave the company over the past year. Chief Digital Officer of News Corp, Jon Miller released the following statement: ‘We fully respect Jason's decision to leave and his personal desire to return to New York. As many people know, Jason is like family to me, and as expected, he's done everything we asked of him and more. We're incredibly grateful for the passion and enthusiasm he brought to the company. And as I know Jason agrees, Mike Jones has done an outstanding job leading MySpace into its next evolution and is the right person to take the reins. There are no plans to bring in additional management.’ Co-founder Tom Anderson known as ‘MySpace Tom’ essentially does little at the company now. Tom was extremely popular in MySpace’s height of popularity – but now very little is hear of him. MySpace and News Corporation have no plans to replace Jason Hirschorn at this stage. Traffic and user numbers to MySpace has long been in decline – hopefully they can keep this original and music inspired social network going strong. © admin for Social Media News, 2010. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us |
Posted: 17 Jun 2010 11:48 PM PDT WordPress 3.0 has just been released. If you are using WordPress you will see the update link has now appeared inside your WordPress account. 3.0 is the thirteenth major release of the popular blogging software. It has taken 6 months and 218 contributors to create. The best way to find out more about version 3.0 is to try the Twenty Ten theme also known as ‘Thelonius’. Wordpress has created the following video to give you some more information and visuals on the new version. The video does seem to stop intermittently for some reason but still usable. One of the major enhancements is you will now be able to run multiple blogs from the same installation. Like always I would wait a week or 2 before upgrading as like any new release there may be some initial bugs to iron out. What do you think? Have you started using 3.0? © admin for Social Media News, 2010. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us |
Posted: 17 Jun 2010 09:20 PM PDT There have been report the AOL have finally sold the social network – Bebo. AOL originally purchased Bebo in 2008 for US$850 million. Unfortunately AOL has been unable to make anything out of Bebo and the purchase has been considered a major business flop. Criterion Capital Partners seem to have now purchased Bebo for around US$10 – huge loss for AOL here. Steve Case the Co-Found of AOL has posted the following comment on his Twitter account
AOL buying Bebo for $850 million and then selling 2 years later for $10 million doesn’t seem like a winning strategy http://tcrn.ch/bQhxPc
As a result of the huge loss AOL is expected to get a tax write-off for Q2 in the tune of $275 million to $325 million. © admin for Social Media News, 2010. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us |
