Apple iOS4 released today

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 01:20 AM PDT

The latest version of the iPhone Operating System (OS), iOS4, is due for release for iPhone and iPod Touch later today for Australia (and users globally) as the US comes online.

The iOS4 upgrade is the probably the most significant update made to the iPhone Operating System. It is really jam packed with new features including the one we have all been waiting for – multitasking.

To see if you can download the update in your area, just connect your iPhone to your computer, open iTunes 9.2 and press the ‘Check for update’ button under the iPhone tab.

iOS4 adds multitasking to newer iPhones and iPod Touches, lets you change your background wallpaper and claims to offer 100 other feature improvements in total.

Good work from Apple i say.

Last time Apple had such a big update their application servers crumbled under the enormous load they felt when everyone jumped on their site at once.

Will we have a repeat performance or will Apple be better prepared this time?

Only one way to find out!

What do you think of the latest update?

I think i may hold out a few days to just make sure no ‘inconveniences’ crop up.

Australian Government to buy Telstra copper network

Posted: 20 Jun 2010 07:56 PM PDT

The Australian Government has negotiated a deal with Telstra to buy their entire copper network for $11 Billion.

The deal is awaiting shareholder and regulatory approval.

Telstra will decommission its monopoly of copper cables and make room for the Australian government's fiber and move its customers to the new fibre 100Mbps National Broadband Network (NBN).

This may mean Telstra may become a smaller player in the internet / ISP business without a land network of its own. However it may get a larger share in the wireless space. Telstra says it has received ‘written confirmation from the Prime Minister’ that it can bid on a section of the important LTE spectrum should the deal go through.

Facebook’s Secret Strategy Logo

Posted: 20 Jun 2010 05:46 PM PDT

When Mark Zuckerberg took his hoodie off at the D8 conference we all saw the Facebook logo printed on the inside.

This seems like a cool idea by Facebook.

There was some controversy when people originally say this print. There have also been some hoodies on eBay for sale.

What do you think of the design?
