| Facebook 1.3 For Android Drains Battery Like Crazy Posted: 05 Aug 2010 09:50 AM PDT It was after ages that Facebook released an update for the Facebook mobile application for the Android OS to make it less crappy. The latest release of the application boasted of tons of new features like Photo Reel, Support However, I will suggest our readers not to download this application. What's the reason you ask? According to Flipz – the guy behind Fresh ROM's – the updated version of the Facebook app has a wake lock bug. This bug uses/wastes the CPU and the RAM/ROM power even when the phone is in sleep mode. This has a huge impact on the phone's battery life and drains it in no time. According to the Android Developer website –:
Flipz has discussed about this problem in-depth on his blog. Here is the link to it. Hopefully, Facebook will release an update to fix this WakeLock bug sooner than later. | 200,000 Android Devices Sold Everyday Posted: 05 Aug 2010 09:13 AM PDT Yesterday, we told our readers that Android is the leading mobile OS in the US market. Today, Google's CEO Eric Schmidt said that 200,000 Android based devices are sold all over the world from the different manufacturers. In May, around 100,000 Android devices were sold daily, while June this figure was pegged at around 160,000 devices. In the latest survey from NPD, Android managed to grab 33% market share in the U.S, followed by RIM at 28% and Apple at 22%. The high growth rate of Android OS can be credited to the launch of high-end handsets like the HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola Droid X etcetera in the recent months. With Android making its way into the low-end phones, the growth rate of Android is surely not going to slow down anytime soon. | Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Firmware Update Reintroduces Nasty Wi-Fi Bug Posted: 05 Aug 2010 05:25 AM PDT Last week we reported that Sony Ericsson had begun rolling out a firmware update to the Xperia X10. The new firmware – R2BA026, introduced further performance improvements and made the entire user interface more responsive. However, according to reports coming in from multiple users, the new firmware also introduces a particularly annoying bug. As demonstrated in the video embedded below, whenever your network signal drops to zero and then bounces back, the Wi-Fi gets automatically disabled. What makes this blunder even more unforgivable is the fact that the very same bug was also present in R1FA016 and was fixed later on. It definitely seems that Sony Ericsson needs better regression testers. If haven’t yet updated to the latest firmware, you might want to hold on till Sony Ericsson squashes this maddening bug through another software update. Update: It seems that the R2BA026 update also suffers from fluctuating in-call volumes. According to reports on XDA, if you change the call volume during a call, the volume gets automatically reset to 50% after the call.
